BRICS Expansion Gains Momentum as China and Brazil Back Malaysia’s Membership Bid
Malaysia's push for full BRICS membership has received significant backing from key bloc members China and Brazil, signaling potential expansion in 2025. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva publicly endorsed the Southeast Asian nation's bid during his visit to Kuala Lumpur, while China's Foreign Ministry confirmed its support through spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
The dual endorsement positions Malaysia as a strong candidate to become the second ASEAN country with full BRICS voting rights. Russian officials also expressed support during the 47th ASEAN Summit, where President Lula emphasized cultural ties between Brazil and Malaysia. The bloc continues to position itself as a crucial platform for emerging market cooperation.
